Born in Poole and let go by Southampton as a boy, White joined Brighton at sixteen and was built the patient way: loans at Newport County, Peterborough, and then Leeds, where he played every minute of the 2019/20 Championship-winning season under Marcelo Bielsa. One year of Premier League football back at Brighton was enough — England took him to Euro 2020, and Arsenal paid £50m in the summer of 2021.

The Arsenal chapter

Signed as a centre-half, White was quietly converted into one of the league's most intelligent right-backs, the man who makes Saka's wing function. Through the title year he managed his body, kept the right side connected, and made the simple pass feel like a tactical weapon.

How he plays

White's game is geometry. He underlaps to pin defenders and free Saka's one-on-one, overlaps when the winger comes inside, and tucks into a back three when Arsenal need control. He defends with anticipation rather than fouling, almost never gets booked for it, and his flat long throw turns every attacking-third throw-in into a corner.
