Arsenal history
A concise, source-backed beginning for the Arsenal story.
The club traces its beginning to workers at the Royal Arsenal in Woolwich. Arsenal’s own history identifies David Danskin and Jack Humble among the founders and records the first match in December 1886, when the team was still known as Dial Square.
Arsenal moved to Highbury in 1913 and played there until 2006. The club’s stadium history records the first Highbury match as a 2–1 win over Leicester Fosse on 6 September 1913, before the move to Emirates Stadium.
