The greatest goalscorer in Arsenal's history. A flying winger remade into a forward of impossible grace, Thierry Henry gave the Highbury years their swagger, ran defences ragged for the better part of a decade and left as a two-time League champion, an FA Cup winner and an Invincible.

Before Arsenal
Henry came through Monaco's celebrated academy under Arsène Wenger, breaking into the side as a teenager and winning the French league. A starring role in France's 1998 World Cup triumph took him to Juventus, where he was deployed wide and largely misfired. He had scored just three league goals in Turin when, in 1999, Wenger brought him to north London — many doubted that a struggling winger could become a centre-forward.
The Arsenal years
Converted into a striker by Wenger, Henry became unstoppable. He won the Premier League in 2001/02 and 2003/04 — the unbeaten Invincibles season — plus FA Cups, and was twice voted FWA Footballer of the Year, in 2003 and 2006. He left for Barcelona in 2007 as Arsenal's record scorer with 228 goals, returning briefly on loan in 2012 and marking it, inevitably, with a winner against Leeds.
How he played
Pace, balance and a low centre of gravity let him drift in from the left and arrow shots into the far corner — the signature finish of a generation. Two-footed, generous with assists and capable of the outrageous, he combined a sprinter's speed with a craftsman's touch.
