Left-back · 1999–2006Ashley ColeA product of the Hale End academy, Ashley Cole emerged as the finest English left-back of his generation. Rapid, tenacious and tactically sharp, he overlapped with the best of them and defended with a ferocity that belied his slight frame. For several seasons he was simply the standard at left-back in the English game.
